Today whilst training with Dave we learnt that he's going to teach us to do Ketschker turns whilst handling.
It does make sense to me,handling techniques need to be an evolving entity, not something which is left to stagnate.
The dogs which Dave tried the turns on responded well in every case. They all turned tighter, and accelerated quicker out of the turn.
For a dog like Mookie, who although she often lands tight....accelerates out of the turn in a loop, these turns should help with that alot. The dogs picked them up with no problem, and obviously hadn't been trained to understand the new verbal cue,so will only perform better when they have an understanding of it....its exciting
to be learning something new,and hopeful that the tighter turns which Mookie should now execute will mean the difference between 1st and 2nd place, and therefore get her moved up to grade 4 :)
Waiting patiently, and not so patiently for dinner.
From last Thurs eve,an after work trip to dog heaven...aka Partners Pet store!!
